Artist statement

In my work, I continually play with shifts in perspective on reality, a working method I have developed since my early films. Through these shifts, I render seemingly intimate moments in a cinematic way—such as a body beneath a sheet, a breath, or an encounter between lovers—so that multiple realities become visible within a single situation.

Biography

Yasmijn Karhof (b. 1974, Edam, NL) is a multimedia artist living and working in Amsterdam. She graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy in 2000, with earlier studies at The Cooper Union in New York (1998) and at the University of Amsterdam, where she focused on philosophy and aesthetics (1998–2001).She completed a residency at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam (2004–2005). In 2007, she spent six months in Japan researching ambiguous cultural perspectives on nature and spatial aesthetics—an influence that continues to resonate in her work.
